Terms and Conditions

The terms that apply when you use Lionsa, search for a tradesperson, hold Search Credits or unlock a Confidence Score™.

In brief

Lionsa helps you investigate a tradesperson you are already considering. We bring together relevant public information and explain what it may mean, but the final hiring and payment decision remains yours.

1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of the Lionsa website, account, search service, Search Credits and completed assessments. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. Paid purchasing is not available during the invite-only beta. After paid launch, pricing and checkout information shown before a purchase will also form part of the agreement for that purchase.

Nothing in these terms removes rights that UK consumer law gives you and that cannot legally be limited or excluded.

2. What Lionsa provides

Lionsa searches for and connects information from independent public sources to help you understand the identity, credentials, trading history and reputation of a tradesperson or business. A completed assessment may include Identity Confidence, Trust Confidence, key findings, sources checked and an overall Confidence ScoreTM.

Lionsa is not a directory, recommendation service, insurer, certification body or guarantee of a tradesperson's identity, conduct, solvency or quality of work. An assessment supports your own checks and judgement; it does not replace references, quotations, contracts, insurance checks or professional advice where these are appropriate.

Each assessment is a dated snapshot based on the information that could be found and checked at that time. Public information can be incomplete, delayed, disputed or changed after an assessment is issued.

3. Accounts and eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a contract to hold a Lionsa account or, after paid launch, buy Search Credits. You must provide accurate information, keep your login secure and tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission. You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless the law provides otherwise.

4. Finding and confirming a business

You can start with the information you already have, such as a name, phone number, website or location. Lionsa may show one or more possible businesses and available identifying details. You are responsible for confirming which business you want us to assess before a full scorecard is unlocked.

A possible match is not itself a conclusion about that business. If none of the options looks right, do not confirm one; provide more detail or try another search.

5. Search Credits and payment

During the invite-only beta, approved accounts may receive complimentary Search Credits. Paid checkout is not enabled and prices shown elsewhere are planned paid-launch prices only.

No Search Credit is used merely because you run a search. One Search Credit is used when you confirm a business and choose to generate and unlock its completed Confidence ScoreTM. No credit is used where Lionsa cannot find a candidate or cannot supply a completed assessment.

Any limit applying to complimentary credits is shown in your account. After paid launch, the price, number of credits, any expiry rule and the period for reopening a purchased assessment will be shown before you buy. Reopening the same saved assessment does not use another credit. Requesting a fresh assessment may require another credit where this is made clear before you proceed.

6. Cancellations and refunds

This section applies when paid purchasing is enabled. Your statutory cancellation and refund rights are not affected. Where you ask Lionsa to begin a digital assessment immediately, we will request any consent or acknowledgement required by law before supply begins. Your cancellation rights may be affected once a digital service has been fully supplied with the required consent.

Contact us promptly if you believe a credit was charged incorrectly, an assessment was not supplied, or a purchase was made without your permission. We will review the account record and apply your legal rights and the purchase terms shown at checkout.

7. Responsible use

You must not:

  • use Lionsa unlawfully, fraudulently, abusively or to harass another person;
  • submit information you know is false or misleading;
  • scrape, copy, resell or systematically extract Lionsa content or assessments;
  • reverse engineer the service or attempt to uncover protected scoring methods;
  • bypass account, payment, credit, rate-limit or security controls; or
  • use automated or bulk access unless Lionsa has agreed this in writing.

8. Information you submit

Information you submit through search, feedback or a business response must be accurate to the best of your knowledge, lawful and not infringe another person's rights. You give Lionsa permission to store, review and use that information as reasonably necessary to operate, secure and improve the service, investigate the submission and maintain accurate business records.

9. Third-party sources and links

Lionsa does not control the independent sources, websites or services it checks. Their availability, content and accuracy can change. A source link or reference does not mean Lionsa endorses that source or the business described there. Where possible, the scorecard lets you inspect the underlying information and make your own checks.

10. Intellectual property

Lionsa, the Lionsa marks, Confidence ScoreTM, Lionsa's software, scoring methodology, analysis, design and original content belong to Lionsa or its licensors. We give you a limited, personal, non-transferable right to use the service and assessments for your own household or internal business decision-making.

You may share an assessment using the provided sharing and download tools, but you may not reproduce, alter, sell, license, train another system on, or commercially exploit Lionsa materials without written permission.

11. Availability, suspension and changes

We aim to keep Lionsa available and accurate, but searches can take time and individual sources may be unavailable. We may maintain, improve or change the service and may suspend access where reasonably necessary for security, misuse, non-payment or legal compliance. We will not treat an incomplete search as a completed paid assessment.

We may update these terms. Material changes will be presented clearly and will not reduce rights already attached to a completed purchase without a lawful basis.

12. Responsibility and liability

Lionsa is responsible for providing its service with reasonable care and skill. We do not exclude or limit liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your statutory consumer rights.

Lionsa is not a party to any agreement between you and a tradesperson and is not responsible for their quotation, contract, payment request, conduct or work. We are not responsible for losses caused solely by inaccurate or unavailable third-party information that we could not reasonably have identified, or by your confirming the wrong business despite the identifying details shown.

If you use Lionsa mainly for business purposes, we are not liable for loss of profit, revenue, business opportunity or anticipated savings except where the law does not allow that liability to be excluded.

13. Privacy

We use personal information to provide and secure accounts, searches, assessments, payments and support. Our Privacy Notice explains what we collect, why we use it, how long we keep it and the rights available to you. Please do not submit unnecessary sensitive personal information through a search or form.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer in another part of the UK, you keep any mandatory rights and may bring a claim in the courts available to you under applicable consumer law.

15. Contact us

Questions about these terms, a payment, an assessment or your account can be sent through the Contact Us page. Please include enough detail for us to identify the relevant account or assessment, but do not send passwords or payment-card details.
